New Years-Run Altach 27.12.2009

altachersilvesterlau689521Yvonne van Vlerken wins 12th Altacher-New Year's Eve run with a new course-record in 45:34 min for 12.4 km. New participant record with more than 1000 starters.
Yvonne van Vlerken (Tri Team Lustenau/Endurance Team Austria) has won the 12th Altacher-New Year's Eve run with a tactically clever race against the highly decorated Swiss run-specialist Claudia Helfenberger-Wepf, female overall winner of the Swiss Mountain-Marathon Cup '08, in an exciting race and new course-record.

Only four weeks after her victory at Ironman Cozumel in Mexico Yvonne had to dig deeper than she had maybe expected. On three of the four laps the Swiss successfully hindered van Vlerken, partially with body effort, to take over the lead.
Therefore the race had to be decided in a sprint-finish. Yvonne van Vlerken already started her attack tactically wisely 600 m before the finish with a dynamic sprint which the Swiss could only follow about 300 m, in spite of using body and hands. Up to the finish-line the 31-year-old Dutch Austrian-Resident van Vlerken outdistanced the Swiss over 8 seconds and won with a new course- record.
Her race placed her 7th overall in the men ́s field!
In the men ́s race the Swiss Daniel Thür took an unthreatened victory in 41:18 min.
